Common problems with Lexmark printers
Cartridge region mismatch
Lexmark toner cartridges are often made for a specific region, and a printer may reject a cartridge bought for a different one. Buy cartridges sold for the region where the printer was purchased, and check the part number against your user guide.

Some Lexmark cartridges are sold under a return program, priced for single use and intended to be returned to Lexmark when empty. Refilled versions of these cartridges may not be accepted, so check the cartridge type if a refill is rejected.
Imaging unit messages
Many Lexmark lasers use an imaging unit or photoconductor that is replaced separately from the toner. Messages about the imaging unit being low or needing replacement refer to that part, not the toner.

Lexmark offers model-specific drivers and a universal print driver for many models. If printing is unreliable or features are missing after a Windows update, install the current driver for your model from Lexmark's support site.

Lexmark printers usually show the jam location on the control panel. Open the indicated door or tray, remove paper slowly in the direction it travels, and let the printer cool before reaching near the fuser.

Faint repeated images down the page can come from a worn imaging unit, a fuser problem or the wrong paper type setting. Check that the paper type in the driver matches the paper loaded before replacing parts.

| Cartridge region mismatch | The toner cartridge was made for a different region from the printer. Install a cartridge sold for the printer's region; the part number is listed in your user guide. |
| Replace imaging unit | The imaging unit has reached the end of its life. Replace the imaging unit, not the toner, and follow the installation steps in your manual. |
Exact wording varies by model. Your printer’s manual has the definitive list.
