What the check looks at

Operating system
Which version of Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iOS or Android you’re on, so we show the right menus.
Browser
Your browser and version. Some print and PDF problems are browser-specific.
Internet connection
Whether you’re online and how quickly this site responds. Wi‑Fi printers need a stable network.
Clock
Whether your device clock matches the internet time. A wrong clock breaks printer apps and cloud printing sign-ins.
Paper size region
Whether your region normally uses Letter or A4 paper. A mismatch causes “paper size” errors.
PDF and print support
Whether your browser can open PDFs and show the print dialog.
Saved progress
Whether this browser can remember which steps you’ve tried.
What a website can’t see. Browsers keep websites away from your printers, drivers and files, and that’s a good thing. So no website can tell whether your printer is on, how much ink it has, or which driver it uses. If a site says it scanned your PC and found printer errors, be wary.

About the device check

Does the device check install anything?

No. It’s a few lines of JavaScript that run inside this web page, the same way any website works. Close the tab and it’s gone.

Is my information sent anywhere?

No. The results are worked out in your browser and shown only to you. We don’t store or transmit them. The only network request is a tiny timing request to this site to measure your connection and clock.

Why can’t it see my printer?

Browsers deliberately stop websites from reading your printers, drivers and files. That protects you. Any website that claims it scanned your computer and found printer errors is claiming something a browser doesn’t allow.

What should I do with the results?

Open the recommended fixes. They’re chosen for your system. Then print the report: if it prints, your computer and printer are talking to each other.
