Connect your printer to Wi-Fi
Get a new or reset printer onto your wireless network using its control panel, the WPS button or the maker's app, then add it to your computer.
Quick fix
On the printer's control panel, open the Wi-Fi or wireless settings and run the setup wizard. Choose your network name, type the Wi-Fi password exactly (it's case-sensitive) and wait for the Wi-Fi light to stay steady. Printers without a screen usually use the maker's app or the router's WPS button.

- A new printer that only works over USB
- Printing stopped after you changed your router or Wi-Fi password
- The Wi-Fi light blinks and never stays on

Usually caused by

-
Gather your network details
Note your Wi-Fi network name and password (often on a sticker on the router). If your router has separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names, use the 2.4 GHz one unless the printer's manual says it supports 5 GHz.
-
Use the printer's setup wizard
On printers with a screen, open the Wi-Fi, wireless or network settings and choose the wireless setup wizard. Select your network, enter the password and confirm. Menu names vary, so check the manual if you can't find it.
-
Use WPS on printers without a screen
Press the WPS button on your router, then within two minutes press the printer's Wi-Fi or WPS button (some models need it held for a few seconds). The Wi-Fi light stops blinking once connected. Not every router supports WPS.
-
Or use the maker's app
Most manufacturers offer an official setup app for phones and computers that walks you through Wi-Fi setup. Install it from the App Store, Google Play or the maker's official support site; allow Bluetooth and location access if asked, as some apps need them to find the printer.
-
Confirm the connection
Print a network configuration page from the printer's menu. It should show Connected, your network name, and an IP address that doesn't start with 169.254.

Common questions
Can I connect a printer to Wi-Fi without a computer?
Yes. Printers with a screen can join Wi-Fi from their own menu, and the maker's phone app or the router's WPS button works for printers without one.
What is Wi-Fi Direct?
It's a direct wireless link between your device and the printer without a router. It's handy for printing from a phone when there's no network, but it isn't the same as joining your home Wi-Fi.
Do I need to reconnect the printer after changing my router?
Yes. The printer remembers the old network name and password, so run the wireless setup again with the new details.
