Look for: crisp text down to 6 pt, unbroken lines, a smooth gray ramp and a dense, even black block. Faded text means low toner or ink; white lines through the block suggest a clogged head or worn drum.

Black and text test

Checks text sharpness, fine lines and black density.

The Print Bench alignment test page

Look for: straight, evenly spaced grid lines; round circles (not ovals); all four corner marks fully printed. Jagged or doubled lines mean the print head needs aligning; clipped corners mean the paper size setting is wrong.

Alignment test

Checks print-head alignment, margins and paper size.
