Common problems with Epson printers
Ink pads at the end of their service life
Epson inkjets track how much waste ink their internal pads have absorbed. When the count reaches its limit, the printer shows an ink pad message and stops printing until it is serviced. Many newer models use a replaceable maintenance box instead, which you can swap yourself. Check Epson's official support site for the service or parts options for your model.
Clogged nozzles and missing colors
Gaps, banding or a missing color usually mean clogged nozzles. Print a nozzle check from the printer's maintenance menu, run a head cleaning only if the pattern has gaps, and let the printer rest between cleanings. Printing at least once a week helps prevent clogs.

If a new cartridge isn't recognized, remove it, make sure all packaging and tape are off, and press it firmly into place until it clicks. Check that the cartridge number matches your model and region, and look for anything stuck on the chip contacts.

Paper feed problems are often caused by dusty rollers, too much paper in the tray, or guides set too tight. Fan the stack, load fewer sheets, adjust the guides and use the paper guide cleaning option in the maintenance menu if your model has one.

Epson printers can join Wi-Fi from the control panel, through the Epson Smart Panel app, or with WPS on many models. After changing your router or Wi-Fi password, run the Wi-Fi setup again on the printer and re-add it on your computer.

On computers, Epson's scanning software is usually Epson Scan 2. If it can't find the scanner, reinstall it from Epson's site and choose the correct connection, or use Windows Scan or Image Capture on a Mac.

Tips for Epson owners
- On ink tank models, fill each tank only with the ink bottles listed for your printer; bottles for other models may not fit or may differ in formulation.
- Print a nozzle check before running a head cleaning, and avoid back-to-back cleanings, which use a lot of ink and fill the waste ink pads faster.
- Turn the printer off with its power button rather than at the wall, so the print head parks and caps properly and doesn't dry out.
- Download drivers and Epson Scan 2 from the Epson support site for your country, because models and software can vary by region.
Common questions
Is this site part of Epson?
No. This is an independent help site with no connection to Epson. For official drivers, warranty and service, use Epson's official support site.
Can I reset the ink pad counter myself?
Unofficial reset tools exist, but resetting the counter doesn't empty the pads, and saturated pads can leak ink inside the printer. Epson's official service route is the safe option.
Why does an ink tank printer still need ink pad service?
Every inkjet uses some ink for cleaning and maintenance, and that waste ink goes to the pads or maintenance box no matter how the ink is supplied.
