Can't print from Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox
Pressing Print in your browser does nothing, saves a PDF or prints blank pages. Check the destination, use the system dialog and rule out sites and extensions.
Quick fix
Press Ctrl + P (Command + P on a Mac) and look at the Destination or Printer box. Browsers remember the last choice, so if it says Save as PDF, the page is saved as a file instead of printed. Choose your printer from the list (in Chrome, under See more if it isn't shown).

-
Pick the right destination
Press Ctrl + P and open Destination (Chrome and Firefox) or Printer (Edge). Choose your printer rather than Save as PDF, Microsoft Print to PDF or another virtual printer. If it isn't listed, it isn't installed in Windows, so add it in Printers & scanners first.
-
Use the system print dialog
If the browser's preview hangs or fails, use the Windows print dialog instead. In Chrome and Edge, choose Print using system dialog at the bottom of the preview or press Ctrl + Shift + P. In Firefox, choose Print using the system dialog.
-
Test without extensions
Open a private window (Ctrl + Shift + N in Chrome and Edge, Ctrl + Shift + P in Firefox), where most extensions are off, and print again. If it works, turn your extensions off one at a time, starting with ad blockers and page-editing tools.
-
Allow pop-ups for the site
Ticket, banking and shipping-label sites often open a separate window to print. If the address bar shows a blocked pop-up icon, allow pop-ups for that site and try again.
-
Use the site's own print or download option
Some websites and web apps hide content from the browser's print command, so pages come out blank or incomplete. Look for a print, download or PDF button on the page itself, then print the downloaded file from a PDF app.
-
Update or reset the browser
Update from Settings > About Chrome, Settings > About Microsoft Edge, or Help > About Firefox. If printing still fails, use the reset settings option in Chrome or Edge, or Refresh Firefox.

-
Check Safari's print window
Press Command + P and check the Printer menu at the top. If colored areas or images are missing, tick Print backgrounds in the same window.
-
Use the system dialog in Chrome or Firefox
Chrome and Firefox have their own preview. If it hangs, choose Print using system dialog in Chrome (or press Option + Command + P) or Print using the system dialog in Firefox.
-
Test without extensions
Open a private window (Shift + Command + N in Safari, Chrome and Edge) and print from there. In Safari, you can also turn extensions off in Safari > Settings > Extensions.
-
Update the browser
Safari updates come with macOS in System Settings > General > Software Update. Update Chrome from Chrome > About Google Chrome, and Firefox from Firefox > About Firefox.

-
Check the destination
Press Ctrl + P, open Destination and choose See more. Pick your printer rather than Save as PDF or a Google Drive option.
-
Add the printer if it is missing
Open Settings, search for Printers, and save or add your printer there. It then appears in the destination list.
-
Try an incognito window
Press Ctrl + Shift + N and print the page again. If it works there, an extension is the likely cause.

Common questions
Why does Chrome keep saving as PDF instead of printing?
Chrome remembers the last destination you used. Choose your printer once in the Destination list and it should be selected next time.
Why does a website print blank pages?
Many sites use print styles that hide parts of the page, and some web apps block the browser's print command. Use the site's own print or download option if it has one.
Is it safe to reset my browser?
Yes. A reset turns off or removes extensions and returns settings to their defaults, but keeps bookmarks, history and saved passwords.
