Independent printer help. Not affiliated with any printer manufacturer.

These independent tips are for owners of OKI printers, written by a site with no connection to OKI. Most OKI printers use LED technology: instead of a laser and spinning mirror, a row of LEDs exposes the image onto the drum, and the toner and fuser steps that follow work much as they do in a laser printer. For drivers, manuals and warranty service, use OKI's official site and choose your country or region.

Common problems with OKI printers

Separate toner and image drums

Many OKI printers use a toner cartridge and a separate image drum for each color, and the drum lasts much longer than the toner. When the printer asks for a new drum, replace the part it names using the code listed for your model. On many models the toner cartridge sits on the drum and locks with a lever, so follow the manual to release it before lifting either out.

Faint stripes and the LED heads

A pale vertical stripe or faint line running down every page can mean an LED head needs cleaning. On many desktop models the LED heads sit on the underside of the top cover. Turn the printer off, let it cool, and follow the manual to wipe the LED lenses gently with a soft, lint-free tissue or the cleaner supplied with the printer. Don't use solvents.

Paper jams near the fuser

OKI printers usually report where a jam happened. Open the cover the message points to, and if the jam is near the back or output area, let the fuser cool for several minutes first because it gets very hot. Pull the sheet out slowly in the direction it travels, and check that no torn pieces stay behind.

Choosing a driver

OKI publishes several drivers for many models, typically PCL and PostScript versions, and for some models a universal driver. If text or graphics print wrongly from one application, try the other driver type for your model from OKI's official site.

Offset or faded colors

If colors look shifted or one color is faint, check that each drum and toner cartridge is seated and locked properly. Many color models have a color registration or density adjustment in the printer's menu; run it after moving the printer or changing a drum.

Printer offline on the network

If an OKI network printer shows offline after a router change or restart, its IP address may have changed. Print a configuration page from the control panel to check the address and network status, then update the printer port or re-add it on your computer.

Tips for OKI owners

  • Type the printer's IP address into a browser to open its built-in web page, where you can check supply levels, page counts and network settings.
  • Print a configuration page from the control panel menu to see the firmware version, installed options and network details.
  • Order toner and drums by the part numbers in your manual; OKI supplies are specific to each model and can differ by region.
  • Let the printer cool before opening covers near the fuser; LED printers use a fuser that gets just as hot as one in a laser printer.

Common questions

Is this site affiliated with OKI?

No. This is an independent help site with no connection to OKI. For official drivers, manuals and repairs, use OKI's official site for your country or region.

Is an LED printer the same as a laser printer?

They work in a very similar way. The difference is the light source used to expose the drum: a row of LEDs instead of a laser. Toner, drums, fusers and most troubleshooting steps are the same.

Where do I find drivers for my OKI printer?

On OKI's official site. Choose your country or region, search for your exact model and pick the driver for your operating system.
