Independent printer help. Not affiliated with any printer manufacturer.

This page offers independent tips for owners of Kyocera printers and multifunction devices and is not connected to Kyocera. Many Kyocera ECOSYS printers use long-life drums and other components, which is why you mostly replace toner and only occasionally a maintenance kit. For official drivers, manuals and support, use Kyocera's official website.

Common problems with Kyocera printers

Replace MK message

Kyocera printers count pages until a maintenance kit is due. The kit contents vary by model and can include the drum, developer, fuser and rollers. Printing usually continues after the message appears, but quality and paper feeding can suffer once parts are worn. Check your model's documentation for the correct kit and the counter reset steps.

Unknown toner installed

Kyocera printers show a message when the toner isn't recognized as genuine, for example with some third-party cartridges. Many models let you confirm on the control panel and keep printing, but toner level reporting may not work.

Waste toner box full

Many Kyocera models collect waste toner in a separate box, often supplied with each new toner cartridge. When the printer asks you to check or replace the waste toner box, fit a new one and dispose of the old one sealed.

Scan to folder fails

Scanning to a shared folder on a Windows PC can fail if the device's firmware only supports an older file-sharing protocol that current Windows versions disable, or if the PC's password has changed. Update the device firmware and check the saved folder path, user name and password.

Driver choice

Kyocera provides its own driver for Windows, commonly called the KX driver, along with PCL and PostScript options for many models. If printing is unreliable, install the current driver for your model from Kyocera's official website.

Paper jams

Follow the jam location shown on the control panel, open the indicated cover, and pull paper out slowly in the direction it travels. Let the printer cool before reaching near the fuser.

Tips for Kyocera owners

  • Type the printer's IP address into a browser to open Command Center RX, Kyocera's built-in web page for settings, supplies and address books.
  • Print a status page from the control panel to see page counts, IP address and firmware version.
  • If your device is under a service agreement, toner and maintenance kits may be included, so check before buying.

Common questions

Is this site part of Kyocera?

No. This is an independent help site with no connection to Kyocera. For official drivers, manuals and support, use Kyocera's official website.

Do Kyocera printers have a separate drum?

Many ECOSYS models have a long-life drum inside the printer, so you replace only the toner day to day and the drum as part of a maintenance kit at long intervals.

Can I keep printing when Replace MK appears?

Usually yes, but worn parts can lead to faded prints, ghosting and paper jams. Plan to fit the maintenance kit soon.
