Printer pulls in several sheets at once
Two or more sheets going through together, causing blank pages or jams? Fan the paper, fix the guides and stack height, and clean the separation pad.
Quick fix
Remove the paper, fan the stack well to break up sheets that cling together, tap it square and reload without going over the tray's limit. Set the guides so they touch the paper without squeezing it. If double feeds continue, unplug the printer and clean the separation pad and rollers with a damp, lint-free cloth.
Didn’t work? Go to the full stepsYou might see
- Two or more sheets come out together, one of them blank
- Pages print out of order or a page goes missing
- Frequent jams as extra sheets bunch up inside
- Thin or glossy paper feeds in clumps
Usually caused by
- Sheets stuck together by humidity, static or cutting
- Overfilled tray or guides squeezing the stack
- Dirty or worn separation pad or roller
- Different paper types mixed in one tray
- Very thin, curled or reused paper
Safety first. Turn the printer off and unplug it before reaching in to clean the rollers or separation pad, and let a laser printer cool first.
Step-by-step fix
Work through the steps in order and check each one off. Most people are printing again before the last step.

-
Fan the paper
Hold the stack by one edge and flex it back and forth, then riffle the pages with your thumb so air gets between them. Tap it square on a table before loading.
-
Load less paper
Keep the stack below the tray's maximum mark; try filling it only halfway. An overfilled tray presses several sheets against the pickup roller at once.
-
Adjust the guides
Slide the width and length guides until they touch the paper lightly. Guides squeezed too tight bow the stack and make sheets cling.
-
Keep one paper type per load
Don't add new paper on top of old; take the old stack out, combine, fan and reload. Keep curled or reused sheets for drafts, loaded a few at a time.
-
Clean the separation pad
The separation pad, a small rubber or cork-like pad or a second roller, holds back extra sheets. With the printer unplugged, remove the tray and wipe the pad and rollers with a lint-free cloth dampened with water. A pad worn smooth and shiny may need replacing.
-
Store paper properly
Keep paper sealed in its wrapper and stored flat, away from damp rooms. Humid paper clings together and curls.

Set the paper type
In Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > your printer > Printing preferences, choose the paper type that matches what's loaded, such as plain, thin or a specific photo paper.
-
Hand-feed special media
For labels, glossy sheets or transparencies, load one or a few at a time through the manual or rear feed if your printer has one, and select that source in the print dialog.
-
Reprint missing pages
After a double feed, cancel the rest of the job in Open print queue, then reprint just the missing pages by entering a page range in the app's print dialog.

Did this fix it?
Good. To confirm everything is healthy, print a test page. It takes a minute and shows any quality problems early.

Common questions
Why does my printer feed blank pages between prints?
Usually two sheets went through together and only one was printed on. Fanning the paper and cleaning the separation pad normally stop it.
Does humidity really make a difference?
Yes. Paper absorbs moisture from the air, which makes sheets cling and curl. Keep open packs wrapped and stored flat.
